Fun food and drink for St. Patrick’s Day 2020

St. Patrick’s Day is a cultural celebration which falls on 17th March of every year. Although its origins began as a traditional Christian feast day when St. Patrick became a saint during the early 17th century, nowadays it is a celebration held all over the world of all things Irish, through public parades, festivals and wearing green.

To coincide with this day, we’ve compiled our favourite Irish themed drinks and food, which we know you’ll love making at home and enjoying with friends and family.

Probably the most well-known Irish drink, this short but delicious cocktail is great for those who aren’t overly keen on stout but are keen to give it a try. A simple, yet delicious drink which will go down a treat!

A fun little fact: On St.Patrick’s Day alone, 13 million pints of Guinness are consumed!

To make, simply shake together 50ml Guinness, 25ml dark rum, 12.5ml vodka. Shake hard to get a foamy head on top.

If you want to add a slight chocolate taste, add 12.5ml of Creme De Cacao into the mix.

Fun and impressive – this shot is perfect for paying homage to the Irish flag. It’s also very easy to make if you know how and only uses three ingredients.

To make, grab a shot glass and layer in the following order:
creme de menthe, baileys and an orange liquor, such as Grande Marnier or Cointreau.

To layer between the first/second and second/third spirit, pour the spirits onto the back of the spoon gently. This will separate the layers.

A twist on a classic sour cocktail – it’s delicious, fruity and easy to make. It’s also bright green – ticking all the right boxes.

To make, simply mix together 50ml of Midori, 30ml lime juice and 20ml egg white (this is purely for texture, if you have an allergy to egg, replace with 20ml pineapple juice). Shake first with ice, then take the ice out and dry shake it to get lots of texture (think of it like making a meringue!)

For those who aren’t drinking, don’t let them miss out on all the fun. This green martini is fresh, delicious and bright green – an uplifting concoction which will hit all the right spots..

To make, simply mix together 25ml lime juice, 150ml apple juice, 15ml sugar syrup, 12.5ml yellow food colouring and 5ml green food colouring. Serce in an ice cold martini glass for extra presentation points.

For a twist on a staple Irish ingredient, why not try this potato cakes with smoked salmon & cream cheese recipe?
